CUMBERLAND CONCRETE CORPORATION

When anyone refers to the largest and oldest ready-mix and concrete block manufacturing facility in Western Maryland, they could only be talking about Cumberland Concrete Corporation.

Actually, Cumberland Concrete Corporation had its beginning prior to 1921 at which time the company was incorporated in MD as Cumberland Cement & Supply. Thru the years from 1921 to 1984, Cumberland Cement & Supply Co. manufactured both ready-mix concrete and concrete blocks as well as furnishing related building materials such as brick, cement products, basement windows and doors, etc.

In September, 1984, George K. Steiner and his two sons, Charles S. Steiner & John W. Steiner, who were stockholders and officers of Cumberland Cement, made an important decision to buy out the assets of their competitor, Super Concrete Company which was located on National Highway in LaVale MD. Thus began Cumberland Concrete Corporation operating at the old Super Concrete site in LaVale.

From 1984 thru the present, Cumberland Concrete still manufactures ready-mix concrete and concrete blocks. We hold the distinction of offering quality products. Our ready-mix concrete is State certified in MD, WV & PA. We still carry a large inventory of brick, masonry tools, pipe and fittings, masonry and concrete accessories. Additional products are also available thru special order.

We now operate two concrete pump trucks. One is a 32 meter unit and the other is a 28 meter unit.

Our primary geographic sales region is usually within a 100-mile radius of LaVale MD which includes areas of MD, WV & PA.

In 2001, we located a portable ready-mix plant on Route 55 in Moorefield Wv to enable us to readily supply concrete for the Corridor H project. This plant is still operational.

The current CEO is Mary W. Steiner (wife of the late John W. Steiner). Her son, John G. Steiner (33 years service) is President and General Manager. Other officers are D. Craig Miller (35 years service) as Corporate Secretary and Ellen G. Marean (42 years service) as Treasurer.
